Teacher helping international student with a passage in a book for American Culture and English Language classesWestern Youth Programs are taught by WWU faculty and local top-quality educators.  Our experienced teachers encourage students to explore their areas of interests with hands-on activities in a positive learning environment.

ESL/American Culture Classes:

All ESL and American culture classes are taught by certified ESL teachers and teacher’s assistants. Western Youth Programs will work with your organization to design culture classes that complement your academic or recreational programming.  These classes can also incorporate interaction with local American students.

Example topics include:

  • English language
  • American culture
  • Experience Bellingham and Whatcom County
  • English conversation practice

High School Volunteers

Recruited from Bellingham’s three high schools, student volunteers serve as teaching assistants, English language conversation partners, recreation/athletic teammates, field trip and excursion buddies, and social companions.
