Learn how to build back a better you. 2020 has taught us that we need to do things differently and that starts with each of us. Discover the importance of health and wellness for addressing life’s pressing challenges from daily work stress to the changing climate. Learn how to take action to build good habits and a positive mindset along with skills to manage stress.

Build Back a Better You - Course 1: Health and Wellness for Challenging Times, Mondays 6 - 8 p.m., Feb., 1, 8 and 22; Tuesdays 6 - 8 p.m., Feb. 16 (to accommodate the Feb. 15 holiday)

The global health pandemic has opened the door to the opportunity to build back better as a society as well as ourselves. These challenging times have created an awareness in all of us that we need to move forward on a different path. Gain a deeper understanding of health and wellness and how to create positive changes in your life. Increase your understanding about creating good habits and breaking bad ones. Build your stress management skills, to allow you to go from stuck to action. This interactive online course series provides opportunities to connect with others as we work towards lifelong changes that can help ourselves, each other and future generations as we explore our place in this world and how to thrive in this new era.

You'll Learn

Course 1: Health and Wellness for Challenging Times

You will be introduced to the basic components of health and wellness and how they relate to your life. Weekly interactions with instructor and other participants through LIVE Zoom are scheduled for Mondays 6-8 p.m.; course material, discussions, videos available on-demand through Canvas, our virtual classroom.

  • Basic understanding and application of a physical fitness and sleep routine
  • Nutrition and its importance on bodily function and wellbeing
  • Lifestyle changes and new habits for healthy living
  • Personalized physical fitness routine

Course 2: New Habits and Positive Mindset

Explore the practice of forming habits and mindset to make lasting positive changes. Weekly interactions with instructor and other participants through LIVE Zoom are scheduled for Wednesdays 6-8 p.m.; Course material, discussions, videos available on-demand through Canvas, our virtual classroom.

  • Positive Habits and how to build them
  • Wellbeing dimensions and creating a positive mindset
  • Understanding procrastination
  • Personalized habit and mindset mapping

Course 3: Stress Management Skill Building

Deepen your understanding of what causes stress in your life, build your skills to manage stress, especially in relation to our changing world and climate. Weekly interactions with instructor and other participants through LIVE Zoom are scheduled for Thursdays 6-8 p.m.; Course material, discussions, videos available on-demand through Canvas, our virtual classroom.

  • Types and causes of stress
  • Stress management techniques and coping strategies
  • Addressing grief and anxiety in relation to climate and ecological change
  • Personal stress assessment

Meet Your Instructor

Jill MacIntyre Witt has been teaching a variety of physical education and environmental studies courses at WWU for the past 11 years. She has over 25 years of education and coaching experience with a desire to help others learn how become their best selves and discover what they bring to this world. She enjoys sharing strategies for health and wellness that help promote a greater sense of wellbeing and place in this ever-changing world. With a background in climate justice and this new era for change, she provides strategies for addressing the grief and anxiety associated with our changing climate.
