Withdrawal and Refunds

Term-Based Online courses follow the same withdrawal and refund deadline as main campus courses. Important dates and deadlines are listed on the Registrar’s Office website.

Students may withdraw from a Self-Paced course and receive a refund of tuition any time within 30 days from the registration date. Requests must be made in writing. A charge for each assignment submitted will be withheld along with the registration fee. There is no refund of the registration fee. A Request to Withdraw Form is available in the Modules tab of your Canvas course site.

Credit Hours

Western’s academic year is divided into quarters (fall, winter, spring, and summer) and all academic credits are stated and issued in quarter hours.  For additional information, refer to the WWU Registrar’s Office: Registration Policies page.

Grading Policy

Unless otherwise stated all courses are graded on the A-F system. Pass (P)/No Pass (NP) grading is available on an optional basis in elective courses only. Students who wish to change grade mode must do so before completing 40% of the work for Self-Paced courses and Term-Based online classes before the 4th Friday of the quarter. The request must be made in writing at the Outreach and Continuing Education office.

A grade is recorded on the transcript when all lessons have been submitted and tuition and fees have been paid.

Academic Honesty

At Western Washington University, all student must adhere to the Academic Honesty Policy and Procedure, available on the WWU Academic Integrity page.

Textbooks and Supplemental Materials

Cost of textbooks, articles and supplemental materials vary widely from course to course. The course syllabus lists the required reading and materials.

Extensions (Self-Paced Courses Only)

Initial registration fees cover a period of six months from the month of registration. A $50 fee enables the student to receive a three month extension of time. Only one extension is allowed.
