Grandparents U: Anacortes Grades 1-8

Registration for summer programs will begin February 8, 2019

Create memories to last a lifetime during this unique intergenerational program for grandparents and grandchildren ages 6-14.  You and your grandchild work side-by-side as you participate in a hands-on course taught by Western faculty.

Youth program participants and staff must abide by all University regulations and program rules.

Marine Animal Adaptations

Have you wondered why crabs have claws and sea stars have no bones? At the Shannon Point Marine Center we dive into the how’s and why’s of different marine animal characteristics. We investigate the tops of kelp forests and deep ocean canyons to discover how marine habitats influence species diversity. 

Instructor: Cristina Villalobos

Students are asked to bring:

  • A rain jacket
  • A healthy snack
  • A water bottle
  • Sunscreen
  • Good walking shoes/sneakers
  • A curious mind

Cost Details

Registration is $260* for one grandparent and one grandchild. Additional grandparents can register for $150 each and additional grandchildren can be added for $90 each. This includes all class/instructor fees, facilities and lunch on day one.

*WWU alumni, faculty and staff are eligible for a $20 discount at time of registration.

Cancellation Policy

A full refund is granted if a program or session is cancelled. No reduction fee is given for late arrival, early departure, missed days due to vacation, illness or special events, or expulsion for disciplinary reasons. Cancellation requests must be submitted via email to seven days prior to the program start date in order to receive a refund; a $50 per session handling fee will be charged for cancelations. Refunds will not be granted for cancellation requests received later than the seven days prior to the start date of the session.
