How to Apply

You must be at least 17 years old at the time of enrollment, unless formally approved by IEP Admissions.

Step 1: Prepare Your Supporting Documents

  • A financial guarantee, quoted in U.S. dollars

    • An official bank statement or sponsor letter in English

    • You must verify that you have the amount indicated on the IEP application for each quarter you want to attend

  • A copy of a passport or government issued identification card

Step 2: Complete Your Application

Optional: You may apply for conditional undergraduate admission to Western.

It will take 2-3 days to process applications. If accepted to the program, your I-20 and acceptance packet will arrive in 2-3 weeks. Students who defer enrollment more than twice, or whose application is more than 6 months old, must submit a new application, fee, and supporting documents.

If you prefer to fill out a paper application, please contact IEP at iep@wwu.edu. The paper application is available in several languages including English, Simplified Chinese, Arabic, Spanish, Japanese and Korean. Please tell us your language preference.

Step 3: SEVIS and F-1 Visa Interview

After receiving your acceptance packet and I-20 form, contact the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate to schedule a visa interview. Submit your SEVIS fee payment through CASHNet. You must show proof of SEVIS fee payment at your visa interview.

Step 4: Confirm Arrival and Apply for On-Campus Housing

To secure a place in IEP, students must confirm their arrival by completing the Attendance Form. This form will be included in your acceptance packet. The Attendance Form includes:

  • On campus housing application (you can apply for housing after receiving an F-1 student visa)

  • Arrival help information—IEP provides free pick-up for students in the Bellingham area
